Narrative
Helen begins a passionate affair with a man who has no idea what her secret identity is. Caught in the crosshairs when her lover falls victim to the dangerous London underworld, Helen’s employer Sam is called in to protect her. Bingo, the owner of the guitar shop where Sam gets his guns, is played by Rat Scabies of The Damned.
It starts off really well
A Tale of New York Written by Jem Finer, Shane MacGowan Performed by The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl. This is one of those mainstream entertainments where you can’t really fault the acting and the production values are almost flawless. You think a complex spy thriller is about to engulf you and seduce you.
But John Le Carre is not
Instead, you quickly realize that it’s neither serious nor funny. As is often the case these days, the story’s narrowness is the problem. It has quirky characters, and they’re characters who have the charm and conversational skills you’d expect from a psychopath.
Sadly, it’s disappointing, it could have been really good
You could relate them to Eve from Killing Eve, but they’re poor cousins and don’t really fit the psychopath DNA lineage. It’s a comic book caricature of a spy thriller, with a story that relies on thin plot and frequent action scenes to fill in the blanks.
