Essex and Wales collide when Gavin and Stacey fall in love, taking their friends, family and luggage with them. The entire series was filmed in Wales, with the exception of scenes filmed on location in London in the first episode. Essex. The house used as a shipman’s house (Gavin’s family) is located in Dinas Powys, a village 1 mile northwest of Barry, where the Wests (Stacey’s family) live. In series 3, Bryn and Gavin’s cars have completely different registration numbers than in previous series. Gavin’s blue Saxo has changed from T-reg (MY 1999) to X-reg (MY 2000). Bryn’s green Picasso has changed from CV02 (MY 2002, registered in Cardiff) to HV54 (MY 2004, registered in Portsmouth). They are clearly different cars.. Gavin & Stacey: Outtakes (2007). I have to say I can’t quite understand the previous reviewer, as I think they are on a different planet than anyone else and I feel compelled to set the record straight. Gavin & Stacey is one of the best comedies I have seen in recent years. It features a fantastic cast and a brilliantly written script by Ruth Jones and James Corden. The show is based around Gavin (an Essex boy) and Stacey (a receptionist on Barry Island) who start a relationship over the phone while they are at work. The feedback from the series has been so good that a second series has already been commissioned.
